Melanotan I 10 mg

Educational recon guide for a 10 mg Melanotan I (afamelanotide-related) research vial. Research use only — not Scenesse implants.

Vial

Concentration

Per unit

~50.0 mcg

Frequency

Daily or near-daily SC in secondary research-vial write-ups (approved product is a long-acting implant)

Route

Subcutaneous (research vials). Approved afamelanotide uses a controlled implant.

Defaults match this guide (10 mg + 2 mL BAC). Change water or dose and the unit tables below update automatically.

Step 1

Reconstitution

Peptide amount in the vial and how much bacteriostatic water you add.

Step 2

Your dose

This guide uses microgram-scale research doses — quick picks are in mcg (100 mcg = 0.1 mg).

Research cycle phases

Units and volumes recompute from your Step 1 concentration (2 mL BAC → 5.00 mg/mL · 50.0 mcg/unit). Doses below are once daily during the course — not weekly.

Standard course

Approved afamelanotide (Scenesse) is a 16 mg bioresorbable implant for erythropoietic protoporphyria on a multi-week schedule — not daily research-vial injections. Secondary SC research-vial tables for “Melanotan I” often discuss roughly ~0.5–1 mg class amounts (sometimes lower mcg starts). Treat as recon math only; not a DIY version of Scenesse.

Melanotan I 10 mg vials

3 vials

~24.5 mg mg total peptide over this 28-day course at 500 mcg → 1 mg per injection (phase ladder). Each vial holds 10 mg.

Bacteriostatic water

2 × 3 mL or 1 × 10 mL

2 mL BAC per vial × 3 vials = 6.0 mL total. Buy as 2× 3 mL bottles or 1× 10 mL bottle (whichever you stock).

U-100 insulin syringes (100-unit)

28+ syringes

About one 100-unit syringe per injection for this schedule. Keep a few spares.

Alcohol swabs & sharps

~62 swabs · 1 sharps container

Wipe vial stopper and injection site each time. Dispose needles in a proper sharps container.

Reconstitution steps

  1. Allow the lyophilized 10 mg Melanotan I vial and bacteriostatic water to reach room temperature.
  2. Draw 2.0 mL bacteriostatic water (default for this guide).
  3. Inject BAC slowly down the inner wall of the vial — avoid blasting the powder cake.
  4. Gently swirl or roll until the solution is clear. Do not shake hard (foaming).
  5. Label with recon date and concentration (e.g. "5.0 mg/mL — 2 mL BAC").
  6. Refrigerate at 2–8 °C (35–46 °F), protected from light. Prefer using a reconstituted multi-dose vial within ~28 days with sterile technique.

Storage

Lyophilized

Keep dry powder cold and dark when possible (−20 °C / −4 °F preferred for long-term research stock).

Reconstituted

Refrigerate at 2–8 °C (35–46 °F). Avoid freeze–thaw of the working solution. Prefer finishing within ~28 days.

  • ·Write recon date and BAC volume on the label.
  • ·Protect from light during storage.
  • ·Discard if cloudy, particulates, or odd odor appear after reconstitution.

Protocol notes

  • ·More MC1R-selective narrative than MT-II, but research vials ≠ approved Scenesse implants.
  • ·Research use only.

Research context & considerations

Afamelanotide is an approved implant for specific photodermatosis care in some regions. Research-market “Melanotan I” vials are a different, unregulated supply channel.

  • ·Nausea and pigmentation changes can occur.
  • ·Mole/freckle darkening — dermatology caution.
  • ·Not a substitute for approved EPP therapy.
  • ·Pregnancy out of scope.
