Overview
Melanotan I (afamelanotide) is a linear analog of alpha-MSH. As Scenesse, it is an approved implant for preventing phototoxicity in erythropoietic protoporphyria. This is pharmacologically related to but clinically different from Melanotan II tanning misuse.
Mechanism
MC1R agonism increasing eumelanin without the same nonselective profile as MT-II.
