Khavinson tetrapeptide bioregulator (Ala-Glu-Asp-Pro) developed as a cerebral-cortex-targeted short peptide for neuroprotection and cortical gene regulation research.

How to picture it

Same bioregulator philosophy, different address: cortical and cognitive-aging pathways. Picture a short signal that participates in how brain tissue manages stress and gene expression under age-related load — a precision note for neural maintenance rather than broad stimulation.

Research focus & benefits

  • Cortical bioregulator research interest
  • Cognitive-aging pathway studies
  • Brain-directed short-peptide literature

Benefits describe research interest and pathway rationale — not guaranteed outcomes or medical advice. Research use only.

Overview

Cortagen is the synthetic cortex-focused member of the Khavinson ultrashort peptide family, reverse-engineered from cortical tissue extracts (related conceptually to Cortexin). Preclinical work emphasizes nerve regeneration, cortical gene-expression shifts, and neuroprotection under hypoxic or traumatic conditions. Clinical track record largely belongs to larger polypeptide extracts rather than the pure tetrapeptide.

Mechanism

Proposed direct chromatin/DNA interaction in cortical neurons with tissue-selective transcriptional modulation. Shares Ala-Glu-Asp core with Epitalon; proline C-terminus is associated with structural stability. Microarray work from the originating group reported differential expression of dozens to ~100+ genes after exposure.

Research uses

  • Sciatic nerve regeneration models (improved conduction velocity reports)
  • Cortical explant growth stimulation
  • Neuroprotection in ischemia/hypoxia models
  • Post-injury recovery adjunct research (extract literature)

Research dosing notes

Cyclic multi-day bioregulator protocols in source literature. No Western clinical dosing standard.
